After months of research into parallel realities, Reed Richards felt comfortable enough with his findings to alter the portal to the negative zone to try to reach these other realities.
"Reed are you sure about this?" Sue asked.
"Of course, the risks are far outweighed by the possible discoveries we could make." Reed answered. Reed activated his console and the doors of the laboratory sealed shut. The portal hummed to life as stray bolts of electricity discharged off the device. The
lights dimmed as the portal drew in more and more power before finally a tear appeared floating in the air. The tear widened and the two could see through, but there was only darkness.
"Nothings there." Sue said
"I guess it's possible of all the possibilities out there this must be one where the earth is somewhere else in space, or maybe not even there at all. We'll have to try again with a different..." Reed was cut off. A klaxon sounded and the lights started flashing
red. Reed looked down to the monitor. "No, the room its being flooded with cosmic radiation from the other side of the rift."
"You mean what gave us our powers, we can't let that get lose here, shut it down!" Sue yelled.
"I can't its not responding, and its worse than that. This radiation is more potent then what we encountered it'll even get through the labs radiation shielding in no time, I don't think anyone could survive direct exposure to it." Reed said frantically trying
to reroute the power away from the device.
Sue looked at her monitor the radiation levels were rising fast she needed to buy Reed time. She left her station and walked towards the portal holding up her arms to put a force field around herself.
"Sue get back now its not safe." Reed shouted.
"It wont be safe anywhere if we cant stop it from spreading now hurry and turn it off I'll do what I can." Sue said as she extended her force field to plug the portal.
Reed couldn't argue with her she was right, all he could do is keep working and hope he could fix things quickly.
Sue held the field strong for as long as she could, she could feel herself changing as more and more radiation seeped through. She was getting weaker and her vision darker. She fell to her knees but managed to keep the force field up. Sue wasn't sure how much
time had passed it felt like hours but was probably only a few moments. Just when she felt she couldn't go on any longer the portal closed and the alarms died down. She dropped to ground unconscious but with a small smile on her face.
Reed immediately rushed to his wife's aid. calling for the others' help as he treated her. Hours had passed and Sue was stabilized but resting in an isolation room.
"Let me see her!" Johnny yelled.
"I can't, we don't know how that radiation has affected her yet. We have to be patient on this, the last time we were hit with cosmic rays we got our powers but this was different from another plane of existence we don't have any idea of what will happen."
Reed argued.
The two continued their fight while Ben tried to calm them down. Sue meanwhile began to wake she could feel her body changing again she felt...
