It was Peters boss.

For once it wasn’t bad news.

It just so happens that one of his coworkers, Sanjani Jaffrey, wants to perform an important experiment today.  This experiment requires two people to operate the equipment and Peter was one of the few qualified persons available.

Peter thought about this.  Sanjani is a fiercely independent woman.  She is a genius with an aloof attitude, who already views most of her fellow scientists as competition.  Peter had made a terrible first impression with her. To her, he seemed to be an irresponsible goof ball who wastes his admittedly high intelligence.

Perhaps this was a good opportunity to change her opinion of him.
