“We cannot directly conquer this world,” said one of the mysterious figures.
“WHAT!? Why not?” said another.
“The abundance of superpowered individuals upon it prevents us from taking direct action against them,” said the first voice.
A third chimed in, adding, “We have more mind control technology than we know what to do with. Systems and gasses and psionics that can tear apart the human mind and rearrange it to the way we want. WHY can't we just go in and claim the Earth as ours?”
“Because I've read up on the history of this world,” said the first figure. “The heroes have overcome what we have and worse. Sometimes just a single hero has overcome it.”
“...Seriously?” asked a fourth figure.
The first figure nodded. “To say nothing of the villain opposition we'll get if we conquer directly.”
“...You said directly,” said the second figure, smirking.
The first figure chuckled. “Yes,yes I did. I've figured out how to fix this. We'll pick a proxy,one to rule the world in our name. We'll make that proxy the leader. And through them, we'll rule the world. And they'll never know that they're our puppet. That will keep everyone off of our tail as we make the world our toy.”
“You have someone in mind?” asked the third figure.
“I do,” the first figure said. “We'll just give our proxy the hemisphere at first. Plant a false history around the world, make a few of their comrades into concubines, give our subject a temple, up their power levels... That sort of thing.”
“Oh boy,” the second figure said. “Our subject's gonna get a REAL big surprise when they wake up!!”
“I've already started the process,”said the first figure. “By the time our subject wakes up, they'll be worshipped as a GOD, with real gods paying tribute to them.”
