In the space between worlds, there is a place that exists and yet doesn't. A normal mind that tries to perceive it would simply shatter whereas an exceptional mind would suffer endless madness. This inexplicable place served one and only one purpose: a space for gathering and debate amongst creatures as old as time itself.

One such meeting began when in one instant, the place was empty and the next three beings occupied it. All three appeared humanoid and radiated untold power but each was different from the others.

"So here we are again." One that appeared to be made of living shadow said tiredly.

"Yes, again." Another being, that radiated bright white light said. "Are you two ready to accept the truth?"

"The truth? The truth has been and will always be the same." The last being, made of pure darkness said with contempt.

"And that is?" The being bathed in light asked with a small groan, already anticipating the answer.

"The 'truth' is that all these mortals are scum. If you're going change one, first remind it of this fact. Degrade it. Humiliate it. Show it that it's no better than the mud it crawled out of and it'll accept any form you want." The darkness being said with a smirk although none could see its face.

The light being let out an audible sigh. "And just how often does that leave the mortal as a broken husk unable to perform the simplest of tasks?"

"They're only mortals." The dark being scoffed.

"Yes we all know what simple creatures they are." The light being said. "And that simplicity is what makes it so easy. You give them a taste of the endless pleasure that awaits them and their primitive brains will be so addicted to the experience, it'll have them begging to be taken farther."

"Yeah just use your power to make a mortal happy." The shadow being said. "It's not like mortals can be greedy and selfish, let alone completely obtuse. You'd just be wasting your effort and more importantly, power, on creatures that probably wouldn't notice. Let alone care.”

"Our power is infinite." The light being deadpanned.

"That's beside the point." The shadow being continued. "You don't offer creatures like that 'choices.' They're all just raw material waiting to be shaped. You take one and sculpt it how you see fit."

"And just how often do they revert? Talk about a waste of power." The darkness being jeered.

"None revert completely." The shadow being sniped.

"Enough!" The light being called out. "The same arguments for aeons and not one of us have managed to convince the others on words alone. It's about time we end this debate once and for all."

With that the light being gestured and a sea of orbs appeared. To look closer would reveal that each orb was a perfect image of Earth.

"We'll just have to demonstrate how much better our methods are." The light being said as it gestured again and one of the Earths rose out of the sea and moved to in front of it.
