Two weeks later…

It was a slow news day at Channel 4, Jasmine Knight sat in the office in her cubical putting together notes on a story that she was working on. The story wasn’t much, just the “exciting” events of music festival that was happening in downtown Metro City this weekend.

At age 18, Jasmine was the youngest reporter on the small network. Being gifted with a genius level IQ, Jasmine had graduated college with a journalism master's degree at age 16, but it took years for her to land a job with the Network 4 News.

However Channel 4 News often came in last place in the local ratings, the network was often known for its share of cheap tricks of getting ratings to attract younger viewers like hiring a supermodel in a bikini to be their regular weather girl.

Jasmine often wondered if she got this job because she was truly brilliant or just because she was pretty. At least she didn’t cohost the evening news in only a thong.

Glancing around her desk, Jasmine’s eyes rested on a small photograph of her and her sister Martha taken over a decade ago. The image rested just one underneath her parents. Sometimes she held back tears when she thought about her family. First her parents died in a horrible car accident hit by a drunk, then less than a year later she received news that Martha had been killed while serving in Iraq. For a short time Jasmine had stayed with her Aunt until she was through high school. The money from Martha’s insurance polices paid her college intuition at Stanford, but Jasmine would trade it all to have her family back in an instant.

“Knight!” shouted Editor-in-chief George Cashman over the bullpin of reports at the top of his lungs.

Jasmine snapped away from thoughts of her family and turned to the 58 year-old editor, “Yes chief?!”

“I got a new assignment for you, trade whatever crap your working on to Barbie,” he grumbled.

“I sent hours on this story, and you want me give it all to Barbie? Chief, she can’t even find Metro City on the state map,” complained Jasmine.

“That’s why I’m sending you on a sit down interview with Jason Lance,” said the editor annoyed.

“Jason Lance? The suspected mobster?” asked Jasmine. “We’ve tried hundreds of times, he never gives interviews!”

“I know and the interesting part is that he called us this time,” said the editor, “His only request that it would be you that handled the interview.”

“Me?!”

Loved it! I'm writing something for Shendude first, but I've got ideas for Gotham's Sirens

Glad you liked Atlee's recruitment! Eager to read what you write. Also, there's a thread on the Messageboard now

Les, these are both great chapters. Think I'll continue from the Atlee direction though. Expect my next chapter in a couple days and might write two, one following the heroines, the other the villainesses.
