One of the nonsensical pairings that worried everyone one the most involved Doctor Doom.  Then again, anything that involved Doctor Doom was worrisome.  But this took it to a whole new level.

At an international police conference, Doctor Doom attended to demonstrate how effective his robotic guards were.  They were effective, but far too brutal for anyone’s liking.  Doom didn’t care, he knew he was the best.

But at the even he met a woman who changed his life: Barbara Gordon.

The two hit it off surprisingly well.  Despite his cruelty, Barbara found herself drawn to Doom’s overall charisma.  The deal had been sealed when he asked her about why she was in a wheelchair.  Barbara told him.

Doom’s response was simple.  “Is that all?”

It took less than an hour.  A quick cybernetic implant in her spine, and she was up and walking again with full feeling.  It was as if she had never been shot.  Barbara fell madly in love with Doctor Doom, and married him shortly after.  Doom was surprised that he had such feelings for her, but since the two of them made each other happy, they didn’t question it.

Once the Justice League and Avengers realized the real danger, however, it was too late.  Barbara Von Doom, the Baroness of Latveria, had already turned over her entire Oracle database to Doctor Doom, giving him an unprecedented advantage over the entire world.

Everyone had been on close guard ever since, the two of them lording it up over the villain community.  Barbara had quickly become as arrogant as her husband, deferring only to his authority and crushing any who offended her.  The Doom Diva, as she called herself, had also begun to study sorcery, and wore a modified version of Doom’s armor, designed as a wedding present for her.

And while she enjoyed ruling Latveria alongside her husband and harassing the Fantastic Four, she hadn’t forgotten about the one who crippled her in the first place.  Doom’s second gift to her was free reign in tracking down the man who was responsible for putting her in a wheelchair.

    The Joker.

And oh, what a terrible vengeance she’d reap when she found him…
