If it's one thing Supergirl knew, it was dark spooky castles.
Castles on the moon, castles on other planets, merboys in underwater castles, alien castles presided over by cursed princelings.
Yup Kara had seen em' all.
So why was THIS castle in the Carpathias, giving her the shivers?
Ad of course it just had to midnight in central Europe!
Cloud scudded across the morning the landscape looked cold and dead.
It wasn't so scary really, it looked like a castles from one of those A.I.P. horror films Dick Malverne used to drag her out to...
Nothing to worry about.
Still the Girl of Steel shivered from her vantage point high in the air.
The signal she'd tracked lead straight here and nowhere else...clearly Luthor was in some classical super villain phase.
"He can't be expecting me" thought Kara, "I've been gone too long-nothing to do but take the direct approach fly in and cart him off to trial".
The Maid of Might swooped down gracefully and made a quiet flying entrance through a huge bay window adjoining a dark hall.
At one end of the vast room was a small dais with an ornate but empty throne and a small complex control panel next to it.
It was lit with a single harsh spotlight from above.
"Not scary Not scary, NOT SCARY!" thought the heroine to herself.
The gargoyle statuary lining the walls didn't help matters much, but Kara fought down what she thought were irrational fears.
Quick as a sparrow the Girl of Steel swooped down on the abandoned throne.
Sure enough the panel was a sophisticated communications array, no doubt Luthor controlled both his robots from here.
The Maid of Might set her chin and intoned, "Show yourself Lex, the jig is up!"
Naught by the stygian gloom replied to her.
Then Supergirl heard the faintest flapping sound, very disconcerting she spun around and strained her super ears for the tiny noise but it was gone in a trice.
Did she hear the faintest...chuckling?
Out in the dark two red eyes blazed at her, like the heart of Krypton's red sun.
Kara gasped involuntarily and stammered "W-who is there!"
Nothing.
She scanned the area with her x-ray vision...it was just a big freaky room full of weird statues that was all!
A breeze suddenly blew up from out of nowhere, Supergirl's famous blue skirted puffed up and threatened to go flying over her belt.
Momentarily distracted the Girl of Steel fought the recalcitrant garment and finally had to grab her hem with her hand to prevent an empty room from catching a glimpse of her blue lace edged panties.
Supergirl smiled for a moment at her odd vanity and looked up-those "eyes".
They were closer the throne and dais were bathed in a lurid red light!
"W-w-who..." gasped Kara, this was un-nerving; her super vision detected NOTHING!
"Little girl what are you doing in my home?" said a voice.
Well not a voice really, it wasn't sound it was-Supergirl looked around confused and a little frightened.
"Are you in my head?" did she say or think that???
"Little girl it is way past your bedtime," whispered the voice silkily.
"I-I'm not a little girl," said Kara a trifle uncertainly.
Was there a faint flute playing in the background...again Supergirl strained her ears...the room felt so warm and close to her.
Her eyes were taking on a glazed look from staring at those two red-red orbs.
"Little girl you are feeling sleepy..."
"Am not!" Supergirl whispered.
"Your arms feel so heavy like lead..."
The Heroine's arms feel to her side.
"MMMMmmmm such a sleepy girl" that voice danced around her head.
The Maid of Might's eyes grew charmingly half lidded.
"Darling" sang the voice.
"Yesss..." murmured Kara.
She couldn't take her eyes off those intriguing red orbs in the dark.
"You looked so very tired...why don't you lie down...rest?"
"Sooo-oo sleep-y"
A soft pink light came up revealing an ornate coffin.
"Come to me my darling...yes that is it...rest, rest here" sang the deep masculine whisper.
Like a robot the mighty Supergirl stepped forward, that coffin looked so quiet and comfortable...she just wanted to rest.
"Yes that's it, lovely girl, come forwards, rest now...it's been so long since 1959, nobody cares about you now...time to rest so much work so tired is my girl..." the voice droned on pleasantly.
It took all Supergirl's strength to climb into the coffin but it was worth it, warm soft peaceful...she crossed her palms on her pert school girlish chest.
She was suddenly so tired!
"Nobody remembers you sleep-sleep-sleep sleepy girl sleep and forget...' wailed the voice.
Kara's eyes were all but closed a peaceful smile was on her lips.
Those two little red orbs slowly morphed before her eyes, it was as if the room was misted over for a moment.
Then it was two hard little eyes that glittered at her.
And then in the dark two tiny ivory points flashed oh so briefly...like fangs.
And that voice took on a hard nasty edge.
"Yesssss..... my darling my precious....my own special girl"...
Still Supergirl lay in that coffin, entranced.
A bald man in evening clothes and an opera cape loomed over the Girl of Steel.
"Yes! DRACULEX wins where Luthor failed!"
Slowly "Draculex" made his way over to Supegirl's white lovely neck.
He hissed with gruesome anticipation..."Yessss after all these years and all those gadgets, the maid of might is finally brought down by a little necromancy!!"
He stood up and eyed his prey "And after I drink her warm soft virginal blood, then
Supergirl will be a fitting bride for DRACULEX!"
The heroine's eyes fluttered oh so faintly.
"Bride...Draculex....hmmmm Lex-LEX LUTHOR!"
Supergirl's eyes batted wide open and she sat up in her coffin "Bride! Daddy doesn't even let me stay out past midnight!" she blared.
Draculex reared back, his prey had a hard glint in her adorable blue eyes all of a sudden!
Faster than the eye could follow Supergirl reached into the hidden pouch of her cape and brought forth a well worn woman's compact.
Draculex took a step forward he hissed menacingly-he might yet drink the blood of this pesky teenybopper!
Flipping the tiny cosmetic case open Kara flashed the mirror at her unearthly foe.
"Waaarrrgh" the vampire covered his eyes in terror.
This was all the opening our heroine needed, leaping from the coffin she bopped Luthor hard on the top of the head.
Obligingly he collapsed like a house of cards.
Moonlight bright and healthful filled the hall a wolf bayed mournfully on the heath.
Supergirl stood over her unconscious foe, legs spread, fists on hips triumphant again!
Her face took a wry pucker, "Always knew that compact Superman gave me would come in handy!" she thought.
Kara gave her prisoner the once-over; sure enough it was Lex Luthor the evil scientist who hated Superman and Supergirl to an irrational degree. He was a touch skinnier and done up like Bela Lugosi...but it was Luthor all the same.
She gave his mouth a close inspection, the telltale canine incisors, the mark of vampirism gleaned shamelessly in the moonlight.
Otherwise Draculex was out like a light.
"Gosh somehow Luthor has become a vampire...no wonder he needed robots to run the U.S. Government for him! But how to I de-vampire him??"
"He is too dangerous to leave like this and it's against my principles to kill him..."
"Arrgh" Kara shook her head in frustration magic and the black arts always gave her a headache!
Then she looked up and abruptly smiled...then again she knew someone who had the whole magic thing down pat.
Supergirl removed a slim disk from behind her belt buckle it had a tiny keyboard...she punched in a certain sequence and waited .
"Hope the J.L.A. hasn't changed its codes!" she thought.
