((Author's Note: The Shepard in this story is female 100% Paragon Engineer, having saved Ashley and in a romance with Garrus. The story starts just before the end of Mass Effect 2, with everyone completely loyal and having survived up to the point where
the Normandy crew is rescued, all of them being saved.))
"Commander Shepard," said the ring as it placed itself on her finger. "You have shown the ability to overcome great fear. You have been chosen to join the Green Lantern Corps."
Everyone stared at the ring as it quickly filled Shepard in on what it was, a green, glowing lantern appearing before him.
"Shepard?" Garrus said, gently putting a hand on her shoulder. "What's wrong?"
Shepard shook her head to clear it. "...This ring, it's a weapon of some kind. Capable of making solid energy constructs. It was made by some race called the... Guardians?"
Neither Samara, Mordin, Tali, Legion, Grunt, or Garrus seemed familiar with it.
"Shepard," Mordin offered. "Perhaps more study of the ring is required?"
"Later," Shepard said. "This thing is semisentient, and filled me in on what it can do. I'm taking any advantage I can get against the Collectors..." She grabbed the lantern, holding the ring up to it.
"What are you doing?" Miranda asked, confused.
"The ring showed me... This is how it's charged..." Shepard said softly, her eyes glowing green as she spoke the oath. "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might beware my power! GREEN LANTERN'S
LIGHT!"
The Normandy Crew gasped as Shepard was engulfed in green light, her transforming into a skintight armored bodysuit, similar to Miranda's, a lantern symbol appearing on her chestplate, a domino mask forming over her face.
"Oh wow..." Garrus said softly.
Dr. Chakwas nodded. "Very impressive... and thank you again for saving us all, Commander, but none of us are in shape to fight..."
Shepard nodded, her head still reeling from the surge of power. "Right... We still need to pick people for the various teams to continue..."
Miranda nodded. "I volunteer for the Seeker Swarm mission," she said.
Shepard shook her head. "No offense, Miranda, but Jack's proven herself to be the more powerful biotic," she said. "Save it," she said to Jack as she opened her mouth to snark.
Miranda scowled, but nodded. "Very well then," she said.
Shepard stroked her chin thoughtfully. "That leaves the fire team and someone to take the crew back to the Normandy..."
Garrus stepped forward. "I can handle leading the fire team, Shepard," he said. Smirking, and adding, "Besides. You just got a fancy new toy. I have to do SOMETHING cool to make up for it."
Shepard hesitated and nodded, kissing him. "Be careful..." she said softly.
Mordin stepped forward. "I will volunteer to lead the Normandy crew back. If there are injuries along the way, I can help heal them."
"Good idea," she said. "Tali, Thane, you're with Jack and I. Everyone else... come back alive. That's an order."
Jacob chuckled, saluting. "Yes sir," he said.
Everyone went on their missions. And to Shepard's surprise, she found that if she focused, she could keep an eye on her teammates, creating an avatar of herself with Mordin and with the fire team.
