It had been several years since a battle between the Gi Joes and cobra had leveled their old orphanage, and the GI Joe team had remained to rebuild the children's home.

 

Jenny was a very opinionated girl, and while she had not been adopted, she had chosen a last name based on the hero who saved her and her friends. The Gi Joe team member codenamed Shipwreck was a jerk and a lazy bum, and an A-hole... but he was also a hero that she knew that she could depend on, because he was the kind of guy who would never stand by and let kids get hurt.

 

Even now, he occasionally checked in on her and the other orphans. In order to keep everything low key, he usually did so by stopping by and checking in using his regular name. Hector Delgado. That's what made Jenny choose to change her name legally. Shipwreck clearly couldn't adopt any of the orphans. In addition to being active duty special operations with no close family, oh my god, he shouldn't be left in charge of himself for a few hours, let alone children.

 

But Jenny knew she could safely view him as a crazy older brother or uncle. He wasn't too keen on her joining the military, but Jenny's mind was made up that when she was old enough, she was going to start working her way towards the Joe team.

 

To that end, Shipwreck had set her up with the GiJoe named Jinx, to train her in martial arts. She figured that if she was good enough to defeat her instructors in basic training, she may be fast tracked towards the Gi. Joe team (without being what Shipwrecked called a "green shirt cannon fodder".)

 

So Jenny was completely worn out, having left the dojo used by Jinx for her students, on her way to her independent living appartment, paid for by children's services for kids too old for the orphanage who had not been adopted.

 

As Jenny walked by an alley she heard a hiss, and smelled something strange.
