There’s a special club where a bunch of people meet. Not too many know about it and it’s invitation only. They’re the assistants of superheroes – not their sidekicks, but the people without superheroes that help them out. There’s Batman’s butler Alfred
and the Avengers’ butler Jarvis, there’s Dr. Strange’s manservant Wong, Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, Rick Jones (who’s worked with the Hulk, Captain America, Captain Marvel), and many others.
They hang-out to talk shop, to swap ideas, and often enough to gripe. Recently it’s been mainly griping, griping about how the superheroes don’t take them seriously, griping about how they don’t get respect for all the work they do, griping about how sometimes
they’d like to be centre stage. And this griping is generally accompanied by a lot of alcohol.
One evening, after a lot of griping and a whole lot of drinking, most of the “Hero Associates Club” had a hard time standing straight.
“Sometimes I just wanna be in charge and have them do I want!” Rick Jones slurred and the others nodded in agreement.
Wong snickered to himself, drunker than the rest of them. “Hey, I found something interesting in the Master’s place.” He hesitated for a moment and then removed a glowing orb from his pocket.
“What is it?” Jimmy Olsen asked.
“Some magic gem thing. I don’t know why I took it. It whispered to me, said it could change things, turn us and our masters and the world into anything we want….”
