"War. War Never Changes." This is the tagline which Ron Perlman speaks as narrator of the Fallout series. From Fallout to the various sequels.

Where a world of Atomic Wonder from the fifties' view of the future is turned into Atomic Disaster where a Wasteland rules. Genetic mutations are common, much like the silver age of comics. Technology is scattered, whether it works or not. Humanity which has survived the Atomics bombs which destroyed the world has begun to carve their way into the world with what limited resources they have. Tales of great heroism and great villainy are growing... much like the superhero comics of the modern times.

Another example of such setting emerges from the game DC: Infinite Crisis. A multi-player online battle arena game, it has a number of worlds... including this one called "Atomic":

To quote the aspects of their Earth 17,

"As the Cold War was brewing between the world’s superpowers, a mysterious object from space crashed into Kansas. Mistaking the crash for a first strike, the United States unleashed its full nuclear arsenal against the Soviet Union, who retaliated. The ensuing nuclear war instantly vaporized 97% of all life on Earth. The survivors hope the Earth can be healed, but the nuclear aftermath has left them with scars that never will."

The other three percent (just over 200 million remaining as the three percent by the count in 2011) is likely all named characters from DC comics or their counterparts. There is even a potential picture of Atomics Wonder Woman (along with Prime and a Wonder Woman from a world where all heroes are Robots).

While that is DC, it could just as likely be Marvel. Or the Amazing Women universe. Or Image Universe. Or anything from comics.

So can you see the story rise from the fall of the Bombs?
