The moans of the afflicted came from every domicile on Themyscira but for once, the noises were not of those suffering the wounds of battle. A far more different and disturbing affliction was spreading through the rank of those called Amazon - unrequited
lust.
Each Amazon was moaning in wanton desire, fingering themselves greedily, aching for a release that never came as they moaned aloud the names of their desired partners.
"Oh, Diana!" moaned Io, the muscular blacksmith, "Grace me with thy touch, ooh, yes, right there . . ."
"Supergirl!" hissed Artemis, "Writhe beneath my thighs, mmmm, yes, obey your mistress . . ."
"Superman!" moaned another Amazon woman. "Show me what a man truly can do! Ungh! What makes you so super, ahhhh!"
The rash of desire had begun suddenly and without warning. It was, the Queen of the Amazons thought grimly, just as it had been foretold. If her daughter did not face her greatest challenge ably and with courage, soon, the entire great nation of Amazons would
be reduced to wanton harlots obsessed with self-pleasure.
She knelt at the altar to pray.
"Oh, glorious and kind Aprhodite, whose beauty and grace knows no equal, I beg of thee to grant me strength in this time of need. Oh, merciful, loving Aphrodite, please bring love to me and mine, please fulfill these burning desires, I beg of you to give us
all what we so crave, but most especially-"
"Mother!"
Diana's shocked voice wrenched Hippolyta from her prayer. She stood and prayed, wiping her brow as an image of Wildcat flashed through her mind, hoping with all her strength that her prayers had been heard.
"Diana, my daughter, your greatest trial is about to begin. We glorious Amazons have been cursed and only you can break this infernal spell . . ."
