It occurred to Reed that he’d effectively found away to split a person’s personality into different aspects. He was reminded of an old episode of the TV show Star Trek, in which Captain Kirk was split into “good” and “bad” halves by a transporter accident. But the episode had been a bit more subtle than that. It had emerged that Kirk’s “bad” half was in fact where his aggressive and assertive traits resided, and that those elements were just as necessary to him as his reason.
Reed mused over the possibility of doing something similar here. It would be easy enough to create a clone of Sue, accelerate aging to bring it to the exact same physical age as Sue but keep the mind a blank template, then imprint all the fetishes and desires that Sue kept repressed. At the same time, he could erase all those traits from his Sue, resulting in two perfect copies, but each possessing one half of Sue’s sexual persona.
How fascinating it would be to observe the behavior of each version!
But he stopped himself. This all made for a very interesting thought experiment, but he couldn’t actually go through with it, could he? Where was the practical application that could justify the immorality of what he was pondering? Would it help Sue to have a part of her psyche removed? And what if the new version turned out to be something monstrous? The prospect of seeing a version of his lovely wife with her secret perversions to the fore and none of her inhibitions was certainly an exciting one, but he could already do that by enhancing the perception filter.
In making a study of where the line was that Sue wouldn’t cross where her sexuality was concerned, was he about to cross a line of his own?
