The screens and earbuds burst to life. The heroine was frozen in place, unable to tear her eyes away from the screens. A faint voice began to speak through the earbuds, she didn't know the voice or did she...... she
trusted the voice, above her the screens danced in colour and light, transmitting subliminal signals directly into her mind.
Hours or maybe minutes later it was so hard to know any more, the voice and the colours stopped abruptly. Barbara was still frozen, and then pain. Incredible bursts of pain all over her body. The screens again flickered
to life, filled with images of happy families, nine to five lives, good deeds, people playing by the rules. Her head was filled with voices screaming rules and commands. The intensity of the images increased as did the rate they came. The pain cursed through
her body and Barbara couldn't even scream.
Suddenly the pain began to feel pleasurable, a dance in white light filled the screens in front of her as the voices started whispering and giggling in her ears. The lights stopped and the monitors came back to life.
Scenes of violence, sex and money, power danced in front of her eyes, each image and piece of film crammed with more subliminal signals. The pleasure increased as did the intensity of the images.
And then the pain came again......and the pleasure.....Barbara had lost count of how many times she had cycled through them. Some of the images and voices were now seared into her psyche, like the images of Robin
killing her mother, the voices were sometimes now her own........and then in a dazzling light show and an explosion of white noise in the earbuds she finally slipped into unconsciousness...
