For humans, the conflict between the gods would be known as SMITE.  

 

For the gods, it was simply the Great Battle.  

 

More and more pantheons became involved, more and more gods being drawn into the battle.

 

One of the veterans of the war between the gods was Cupid, known to the Greeks as Eros.  He had just finished a duel with the Shinto god Amatsu-Mikaboshi, an evil god if there ever was one.  But as he was leaving the field, a dark mist erupted from Mikaboshi's unconscious form, still healing from the multiple arrow wounds it had received.  The mist forced itself down Cupid's throat.  

 

The cherubic God screamed in agony as his veins pulsed with pure evil.  He could feel his thoughts started to be corrupted, his mind turning to dark thoughts... "NOOOO!" he screamed.  He called upon all the powers of divinity to expunge the evil from himself, his body glowing as he expelled the evil from his body.  

 

He collapsed, looking on with horror as the evil within him took form.  It looked exactly like he did, save for wearing a dark gray tunic and blood red circlet.  His eyes were red, and his veins pulsed with dark purple energy.

 

"Who..." Cupid said.

 

"I'm Dipuc," the evil Cupid said, grinning.  "And I... am outta here.  BYE!" He created a portal, leaving the reality the gods were battling in.  Cupid could sense where Dipuc had gone, and pitied the peoples of that world.

 

For Love had been turned evil.  And there was little that could stop him.
