The last year had been horrible for Susan Richards. To start with she found her husband cheating on her and when she confronted him he actually claimed it was her fault that he had to seek relief from other women. That she had become a trophy house wife since their marriage that was uninteresting. She had of course started divorce proceedings, and that is when everything started to fall apart. His attorney had ripped her apart in court and in the media. Portraying her as a gold digger that had realized Reed's potential early on and hooked her star to his. It pointed out her lack of use of her academic credentials and lack of any activity bringing in income to the family. When her attorney had tried to protest with her running Fantastic Enterprises Reeds attorney had shown that 95% of what she did could be done by a secretary and the other 5 percent a personal assistant. Her attorney tried to use Reed's infidelity and Reed's attorney had opened up on the number of times she had been "mind controlled" and portrayed her as going along with these scams to have some extra-marital fun. By the end of the divorce proceedings Sue's image and reputation had been shattered. Even her friends in the superhero community wouldn't speak to her. So she'd moved out of the Baxter building and had to get a job to support herself. At that point she found she didn't actually have any qualifications. Her academic credentials were out of date as she hadn't published anything of worked on anything since she got married. She tried to leverage a business manager position on her running of Fantastic Enterprises only to be told that the work she was doing was secretarial and not managerial. So in the end she managed to land a secretary job with a small doctors office. Unfortunately that wasn't paying all the bills of the nice apartment she had moved into and the doctor was kind of slimey. She swore he kept staring at her tits. So she'd been forced to downgrade to a small hole in the wall apartment. Even that was slowly draining her finances due to the cost of living in NY. But if she moved out of town it would be harder to get visitation of her children. Eventually she had to get a part time waitressing job to help cover her costs. It wasn't even a nice family restaurant. It was basically a Hooters with the waitresses wearing skimpy outfits. She hated it, but at the same time with her figure she was making good money. She had even started thinking about quiting the secretary job and going to work there full time. Susan Storm (Reed had forced her to change her name after the divorce) just didn't know what to do.
